As I awake this morning to a bright, sunny November Saturday, you would think I should have no ca... Recent events offer reason

My first major concern is my husband's employment. A company has just bought out my husband's company. Now, as rumor goes, his department will stay in Henderson so he should retain his job but has the new company told him that he is safe? Not directly.

At this point we have not been told what the co-pays will be. I have insurance on myself through my employer paying $14 per pay, which will increase very shortly, so we can drop me off of my husband's insurance, leaving just having to insure him and our two children paying $232.50 per month. If I have to add our children to my insurance I will have to pay approximately $500 per month and then my husband will only have to pay $113.34 per month for himself.

The insurance that my husband is eligible for does not include vision or dental, which by the way all of us wear glasses and all of us have teeth. If we want to have dental insurance for the entire family that will be another $21 per month. We are also not sure if this insurance has any prescription coverage. So, we will take this weekend to go through our medication and make sure we have all medication refilled, that has refills left, prior to the new insurance taking over. But I say hey, lets just pull all of our teeth so we don't have to worry about paying dental bills.

Thirdly, with interest rates, utility rates, gas prices, water, sewage, etc. going up, how are my husband and myself going to be able to: buy food to feed our family, pay our heating bills to keep our family warm, pay our bills so creditors don't turn us over to a collection agency.

Especially since city commissioners Mills, Deep, Hall and Mayor Lackey, who are so concerned for the city's well being and the citizens of this town, have now decided to take 1 percent of our pay, which we earn through our hard work.

Why? Because they are trying to cover their behinds for not being able to manage a budget properly. I had a budget that worked real well for my family but now I don't.

They won't help. Who will help? Well, I guess I can go sign up for welfare, food stamps, section 8 and any other governmental assistance I can find. But wait, that won't work because we make too much money. I guess I can file bankruptcy. Who cares about credit these days!

I do know that our employers will not be able to increase our pay in order to reimburse us for the amounts that are being taken away from us. Now perhaps we can drive across the river and obtain employment there because everyone knows Evansville has a lot better pay scales than jobs in Henderson.

I know that for a fact, having worked about 12 years in Evansville prior to returning to my hometown of Henderson because I felt obligated to support my town. Do I feel obligated to support my town any more? No, not when they feel they have the right to take from my family.
