Thanksgiving Day is history. Hope you ate your fill. Now, how about serving up some of your thoug... Lawmakers' salary boos

"I see the boys and girls in the $1,000 suits and dresses considered making spending cuts in food stamps and Medicaid. But our members of Congress needed their $3,100 pay raise so they can go out and buy gas for their Rolls Royces. Can't they live on $162,000 rather than $165,000 a year? Geez, give me $80,000 a year. I'm sure I can live a heck of a lot better than I'm living now, and I could help some homeless person on top of it!"

"To Laura Newsome from the Council on Aging about Medicare Part D sign-up: I enrolled my brother online and it took all of 20 or 30 minutes, tops. The site - www.medicare.gov - was easy to use and works fine."

"Regarding the good article about Medicare Part D: I think people should know that according to U.S. News and Reportand Newsweek magazine that they need to be very careful. If you sign up for Medicare Part D prescription coverage, and it's not with the same plan as your primary insurance carrier, there is a possibility you could lose your insurance if it has drug coverage. So, be very careful"

"I think it's a shame how seniors have to put up with trying to get medications. Yet, we have pregnant women who can't have enough kids and with the least little sniffle, they run to the doctor and it is paid for through some programs. If it weren't for the senior citizens, they wouldn't be running to get free medications from the pharmacy, while a senior who has worked his or her entire life, is struggling to survive. Now, these young people need to get out and go to work. We need to clean house right down to where they apply for welfare. It is disgusting how the American dream is going down the tubes."

"Where did our colorful lights from the boardwalk to the park go? I have sorely missed them these past couple years. It was such a bright display of holiday cheer for our community. My grandchildren, too, enjoyed it so much as we paused often to admire its color and cheer. It gave hope of some life and spirit left in downtown St. Clair in contrast to our struggling mall on the other side of the street. Has St. Clair's hope and holiday cheer diminished to only a small flicker, as displayed in the lights straining to light the darkness from the boardwalk railing garland?"

"Why does Mark Wilcox feel the need to play politics when it comes to 'his' choices in life (All-vegetarian fare is a better way to go on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23)? Why is it when President Bush is pardoning the Thanksgiving turkey, Wilcox calls it is a 'gimmick,' when, in fact, Bush is just carrying on the tradition of past presidents? Seems to me, Wilcox could have gotten his point across without his poke at the president."

"I moved here about four years ago and don't know a thing about Michigan history - particularly, during the late 1700s and early 1800s. The Native-American names of 'Pontiac' and 'Tecumseh' are alien to me. I'm hoping an educator or a historian in this reading area can suggest some books to read so I can become more knowledgeable about the Native Americans during that time period. I'm also interested in all of Michigan history, up to at least the 1940s or 1950s."

"I moved to the city of Port Huron when I bought my home, four years ago. My vehicle is a very nice vehicle and it rattles now because of the city streets. It would be nice if my car could be repaired. I would like to know where I could send the bill for my new struts. I can't afford to keep fixing my vehicle because of the disrepair of the city's streets. Some of our city streets need repair, and they need it bad."
