About taxes: The top 1 percent of wage earners pay 34 percent of all taxes collected; the top 2 percent's income starts at $250,000 per year — a couple's joint income in metro areas; the government has collected substantially more revenue following the Bush and Reagan tax cuts than it did following any tax increases.

In Canada and England excessive waits — to the point of death — for medical services have spurred many to seek out private-practice doctors. Hospitals in Michigan have seen a growing number of Canadian customers for surgeries.

Go to Agnesian and ask the price for an X-ray. They can't tell you because rates depend on the negotiated price with various health insurance providers.

Employers started offering medical benefits in 1946 because it was the only way they could compete for employees after the government froze wages following World War II.

It would also cost the government less to give the poor and those on Medicare a voucher to buy health insurance privately than it would to expand a bureaucracy. Businesses would offer extra cash in lieu of coverage.

Many on the left worry about monitoring phone calls of suspected terrorists, yet don't think twice about the government assigning you an ID number at birth and using it to track every dollar you earn.
