OKLAHOMA CITY -- For many Oklahomans allergies are a way of life, especially this time of year. If you have serious allergies, you may have had to endure the time consuming, often painful, skin testing. Now a new test lets you bypass all that and still find out what you're allergic to.

"I was giving the shots to myself every day, or once a week and then periodically twice a week depending on the season. And I just kind of wanted to get away from that for the expense and inconvenience," Hicks explains.

Karen tried a new allergy test; The Immunocap Test. Instead of dozens of skin pricks she had to have blood drawn one time. Her blood was then placed in a plate and tested for many allergens. It's a simple procedure that told Karen her allergies were, in fact, gone.

If you're also one of the many who suffers in the Oklahoma outdoors, Karen says this new test is much easier than the method of skin testing.

"It's much more convenient than going to the doctor three or four times to be tested for the skin prick and it's rather painful too," Hicks says. "There are a lot of people who get treated for allergies who actually aren't allergic."

Dr. Ron Schlesinger is the medical director at Diagnostic Lab of Oklahoma. They are just marketing the test to family doctors, but hope to expand to allergists.
