Czech enterprises attending the 14th International Industry Fair in Vietnam have expressed their wish to further boost trade and investment relations with Vietnamese partners, according to Jan Shanel, Chief of the Publicity Department under the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Shanel told a press briefing in Hanoi on October 18 that the bilateral economic co-operation agreement signed by the two countries last September has paved the way for strengthened economic co-operation. He pointed out, however, that Czech businesspeople have yet established contacts with Vietnamese partners.

He said the inauguration of a waste treatment and microbiological fertiliser factory in northern Hai Duong province will take place during the up-coming visit to Vietnam by the Czech Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade.

Two-way trade between the two countries reached US $98.9 million in 2004, an increase of 35.5% over the previous year, noted Lukas Hlavaty, First Commercial Secretary of the Czech Embassy in Vietnam. Of which, the Czech Republic’s export turnover to Vietnam stood at US $20.7 million.

According to the Czech Ambassador to Vietnam, Ivo Zdarek, his country aims to enhance trade and economic co-operation with Vietnam and considers it a potential market for Czech mechanical products, medical equipment, machinery and mining equipment.
